Dengue fever is an infectious disease caused by dengue virus carried by Aedes mosquito. So far there is no drug or vaccine that can treat dengue fever specifically.

Patient will experience sudden high fever, rashes on the skin, muscle aches, pain in the joints, back of the eyes and headache as well as bleeding on the body, nose and mouth, loss of appetite, vomiting and abdominal pain. If you experience signs of dengue fever, please seek immediate treatment at nearby clinics.

A person can be infected with dengue fever through the bite of an infectious female Aedes mosquito. This Aedes mosquito can be identified by the black and white stripes on its legs and body. These mosquitoes actively bite in the early morning between 5.00 - 7.00 am and dusk between 5.00 - 7.00 pm.

Aedes mosquitoes usually breed indoors and outdoors or anywhere there is stagnant clear water such as under refrigerators, bathtubs, flower pots, jars and so on. For outdoors, such as inside tires that hold water, rainwater channels, empty cans, water barrels, bamboo stumps, leaf petals that hold water and so on. The life cycle of Aedes mosquitoes is 1 week starting from eggs, larvae, cocoons and then becoming adult mosquitoes.

The way to control dengue fever is to eliminate breeding places of Aedes mosquitoes by practicing cleanliness in the home and work environment. In addition, the community plays a very important role in the prevention and control of dengue. One of the activities that can contribute to this is the self-inspection of the house and the surrounding area to ensure that there are no breeding places of Aedes mosquitoes. This inspection should be conducted at least once a week. In addition, the community also needs to participate in ‘gotong royong’ programs and cleaning of the surrounding area organized in their respective communities. The community also needs to give full cooperation during control and prevention activities carried out by the authorities such as inspection of breeding grounds and mist spraying.

The activities carried out by the local authority depend on the capacity of the local authority and the need of it’s area. Among the main activities carried out are as follows:

• Inspection, enforcement and elimination of breeding places of aedes mosquitoes.
• Carry out control activities for vector-borne diseases such as mist spraying, pesticide spraying, destruction of breeding grounds, gotong royong and so on
• Carry out control activities for insects or disease -carrying animals such as rats and flies.
• Conduct investigations and actions on nuisance complaints received such as mosquito breeding, fly infestation, rat infestations, abandoned garbage, abandoned houses and others.
• Carry out control and prevention activities of infectious diseases.
• Conduct health education activities for the public such as talks and exhibitions.

You can keep a dog at home after obtaining a license from the Local Authority and complying with the prescribed conditions.

Yes, vaccinations can be obtained at the Department of Veterinary Services or private animal clinics.

The problem of stray dogs is under the jurisdiction of the Local Authority (PBT) and any complaint must be submitted to the relevant Local Authority.

If there is a complaint, an investigation will be conducted by the local authority. If the complaint is valid, the stray dogs will be caught for further action.

The objective of the World Toilet Day Celebration is to instill a spirit of appreciation for the importance of toilets as well as increase awareness of the importance of the need for clean toilets in society and also to give awareness to the public about the culture of clean toilets.

The public toilet audit program is conducted every year and it MUST be conducted by the Local Authority (PBT) and the Audit Results Report must be submitted to the Local Government Department (JKT). Usually the program is conducted in March to April.

The Local Government Department (JKT) has prepared the Guidelines for the ‘Star Rating’ of Public Toilet Cleanliness in Local Authority (PBT) areas which aims to achieve a 5 (five) star cleanliness standard for all public toilets.

The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) through the Local Government Department (JKT) organizes the Malaysia Clean Public Toilet Award Competition every year. Usually the competition starts from February to May each year.
